Day Skipper and Yachtmaster Theory Course Information
In order to achieve the Day Skipper and Yachtmaster qualification, a student is required to undertake a minimum of 40 hours of study before passing two exams (each lasting 1.5 hours). There are several options to achieve this, the most common being night school or a five day concentrated course with SNC or another Sailing School. However, our correspondence course offers a much more flexible option. Our course is designed for individuals who need to be able to fit in the study and complete the exercises in their own time. Your specially assigned tutor will mark your exercises (usually submitted by email) in a 48 hour turnaround, and you can complete the course at your own pace, as long as this is within the allotted 12 month period. Additionally, you have the added experience and support of SNC, a fully recognized RYA Training Centre for both Theory and Practical Training.
When the exercises are completed satisfactorily, the tutor will then send you the two exam papers, which you sit in your own time with your own appointed invigilator (who has to sign a declaration to confirm you sat the exams under the correct conditions). Once a pass is achieved (and our tutors do all they can to ensure this happens, indeed TMI guarantee to continue to support you till you do pass!) you will receive the certificate in the post.

All the study materials that you will need to complete your course are included in the course fee, including study manuals, practice charts, RYA and Admiralty booklets, training almanac and course directions. Additionally, plotters, dividers, rope and essential hardware are all included. Even the exam fees are included.
Please note that the Yachtmaster Theory pack does not include the Portland Plotter and Dividers pack as we have assumed that you are likely to already own your own. They can be bought separetly at £19 per set. Please call us if you would like these included. They are included in the Day Skipper pack.
